Images and Symbols
Creating
a truly amazing handcrafted logo is one tough proposition for a businessman who
have just started out in business and wants to create a brand of his products
by way of his logo.
Unless
you are an artist on the side (a superb one or a dilettante), creating a logo
for your company is best left to a professional designer you hired for the job.
Find and hire a designer to have your vision come to life by way of your
company’s logo.
Hello world
Logos
are your company’s instruments to show the world what your company is, your
product and can help a great deal if your potential customers understands your
product.
They
are your company’s abbreviated instrument to communicate to the world through
colors, shape and other design elements primarily your product and your company.
Logo type
Your
handcrafted logo symbolizes your product and usually depends on your product type and your
industry on how it should look like. Together with your professional designer,
you can choose the right logo to represent your product and your company to the
world.
Since
they are a combination of images and types, the handcrafted logo will give your brand its
unique appeal. For the simple reason that they represent you (and your brand
and product), you want to make sure you get it right.
Monograms
(lettermarks)
These
consist of letters, most usually their brand initials (IBM, HBO, CNN). With only
the short words of their initial letters for people to remember, they turned
each letter into brand recognition. This lettermark is simple and effective in
streamlining a company brand, especially if they have a long name.
Wordmarks (logotypes)
Like
the lettermark, this is a font-based logo focusing on a business name alone
(Visa, Coca-Cola, Google). This works well if the company has a distinct name
and makes it catchy, and memorable. With a strong typography (choice of fonts),
this creates a strong brand recognition.
Pictorial marks (or
logo symbols)
A
pictorial mark (sometimes called brand mark or logo symbol) is an icon—or
graphic-based logo. It’s the image when you think “logo” (Twitter bird, Apple
logo, Target bulls eye)
Each
of these companies’ logos is so emblematic, and each brand so established, that
the mark alone is instantly recognizable. The biggest thing to consider here is
what image to use.
Abstract logo marks
This
is a specific type of pictorial logo, usually an abstract geometric form
representing the business (the Pepsi divided circle, Nike swoosh, the stripy
Adidas flower). Abstract marks condense the brand into a single image. Instead
of a picture that is recognizable, the logo allows you to create something
truly unique representing the brand.
Mascots
These
are logos using an illustrated character that serves as mascot to a company
(KFC mascot, Jollibee, Mr. Peanut). This is a great way to create a brand
spokesperson while his image serves as a logo. A mascot is simply an illustrated
character that represents its company.
Choosing
the right logo (colors, shapes, and images) can highlight your business’
strengths and help you attract the right customers. It can also tell your
customer if your company is friendly, serious, artistic or traditional.
